I'm about to go out in one, nonnies. The catalyst in my fandom I've been waiting on for over a year has just occurred. I figure, if I'm going to do it, I should go big. No halfies. I have so much dirt saved up on this fandom, even I'm amazed.

Have any gentlefail gone out in a blaze of glory before? Any advice?

I basically was a douchebag, but so were they, and my life has been healthier for getting the hell out of Dodge. My only advice is that real men walk away from explosions: if shit goes south and blows up in your face, walk away and don't look back. If they keep up their eternal flames of hate for you and you go about your business elsewhere, they end up the pathetic-looking ones.

NA - I pretty much did the exact same thing with my last fandom... got into an argument over something stupid and realized staying would only make things worse than they already were so I bailed.

Enjoy yourself. Being involved in a huge flamewar and explosion is a life experience, probably one you shouldn't repeat but still... Decide how far you want to go before you get too caught up in the moment and let go when it isn't fun anymore.

Don't you EVER go back, it ruins the effect.

Make a well-constructed post instead of a pure infodump. Organise the content well, so people can't fault you for that. If you're doing this, make it flawless.

And use the LJ-user tag at least once instead of just mentioning their usernames, so bystanders can scroll down and easily figure out who the key players are.

Take a look at the MsScribe story and how the narrative there is laid out. Screencaps of everything, links, etc., but most of all make it into a followable story, and you'll entertain people who don't know jack shit about the fandom itself.

Yes, screencaps are a must. Particularly if you're referring to journal entries.

Thisthisthis. An excellent writeup that tells the story and takes everyone along for the ride, rather than just chucking the information out there, makes all the difference in the world. It's can be the thing that separates a wank war that ends in a week from the Legendary Wanks that people go back and reread for the fun of it.

The chance to have a really good explosion and exit is a rare thing -- it's only proper to take full advantage of it.
