White fandom (the kind that gets posted on metafandom) is way more pissed about the Haiti fic than the A:TLA casting, which seems wrong to me; there wasn't this critical mass of rage and signal-boosting from these people when the cast was announced. That came from the actual fans of color who make up the majority of Racebending. Maybe because the person who fucked up in the J2 situation was a fellow fangirl, and it's more satisfying directing their rage at someone whose pain they can see than some movie director they will never interact with.

I mean, I'm not really complaining. As a fan of color, of course I'd rather have these white women noticing racism than being oblivious to it. But it really proves to me that a lot of them are into anti-racism discourse because they like the way it lets them be venomously self-righteous, not because they actually care about injustice perpetuated against people of color. They seem to revel in the moral high ground that comes with pointing out Fail. I'll take that over the outright racism I have to deal with in rl, but I'm not about to give you a cookie just because you correctly identified a racist fanfic before going back to reading other fic for your racist favorite show.
